10 Posts for Those Who Love Vintage & Thrifting

10 Posts for Those Who Love Vintage & Thrifting - roomfortuesday.comRemember the vintage art that was supposed to be for the Tuesday Made shop, but I ended up keeping for myself? It has a lovely new home in our basement bath! Growing up, I had two dogs that looked exactly like the pair in the painting. Sky & Rusty (mother & daughter) were my dad’s beloved English setters. In addition to being skilled hunters for quail, pheasant, and grouse, these two were our affectionate family pets. I have such fond memories of those dogs, when I stumbled across this piece of vintage art, I knew I couldn’t let it go. The resemblance was uncanny and it felt like a personal, special work that belonged in our home as a reminder of my childhood pets. My mom, who is here visiting this week, also commented on the crazy art resemblance in our basement bath, without me having to point it out. That said, it got me thinking about all of the fun and passionate posts I’ve shared about vintage, antiques, and thrifting over the years. There are a LOT. I figured an itemized list of my favorite posts might be helpful for those who missed them the first time around. These posts from the archives are worth revisiting! They include good stories, tips, roundups, and all things vintage. Click through to check them out… and to get a closer look at my newest (old) painting!

  1. Phew! That’s a lot of amazingly helpful information! A day spent thrifting with a friend is definitely one of my top 5 activities. I still dream of an epic hunting road trip to some vintage Mecca like Round Top, Brimfield or the California flea market scene. (*RFT Meet Up*) I enjoy so many pre-loved finds, but what’s better than original art? Your dog painting is not only lovely and sentimental to you, but I always wonder about the artist’s inspiration too. Maybe she had a beloved pair of pups. Art also have the advantage of being easier to collect; I have a limited number of spaces for special lamps and cool chairs! (Darn it, anyway.) You might have inspired me to take a whirl through my local junk shop today; it’s definitely a digging destination, so I only go once in awhile. I hope you are still soaking up all the family time!💜

    1. I’m with you- thrift shopping with a friend is the best day! We like to hit multiple spots, stop for lunch, and make an entire day out of it. It has been awhile since I’ve had one of those days. Once fall arrives and the weather stays cooler, I need to plan one of those :) Thanks for the reminder! I also dream of Roundup, Brimfield, and all the fun thrifting and vintage markets… I’m so down for that RFT meet up that has to happen eventually! I also wonder about the past life of vintage decor, art, and furniture. If only these treasures could talk and tell us their history and the people who first picked them out. Good luck at the local junk shop if you make it there today! That sounds like a fun afternoon. The fam is still here for a day or two longer, and then it’s back to my regular routine. We’re ready to paint the office and I’m waiting until the pack it up before I bust out my supplies. Happy Tuesday, Peggi! xo

    2. Ladies, I would love to host you all for Round Top! How fun to have us all together and shopping for those flea market finds and antiques! Round top is about 1 hour 45 minutes from my house. There’s also places to stay because 1 day isn’t enough! This upcoming fall might be tough to find a reservation but Spring is still a possibility.
California is on my bucket list of must go places to shop. I’m all in, so let me know what you think…Sarah, Peggi, Lauren, Anne, (anyone)?

      1. Danna, you say the word and I’m there!! I would LOVE to see all you ladies in the flesh, and vintage shopping on top of that?? Yes please!!! I’ll also add that if any of you are ever in California, please don’t hesitate to reach out! I’d love to meet up for shopping or coffee, make you a home cooked meal…my door is always open to you all!!

        1. I just love this group! I need to look into a little RFT thrifting retreat- that would be so fun :)

        2. Lauren, thrilled you are up for the experience! I’ll look into options and let Sarah know then maybe we can come up with a plan for the Spring! Have a great weekend!

      2. I’m definitely in for this!! Spring sounds feasible and I’ve been itching to get to Round Top. You’re the sweetest, Danna! I’ll see what I can put together.

        1. Sarah, I’ll look into rentals, hotels, etc in or near Round Top. It’s a very very small town out in the country. How about I give you the details on what I find and then you can share? Give me till late next week. I’m giddy with excitement at the possibility of antiquing with you all!

          1. That sounds perfect! Thanks so much, Danna :) No hurry!

  2. All of these posts are chalk full of the good stuff! I’m excited that now there is one post where I can access them all at a moments notice. Your new art piece is super special and I love it styled in the basement bath. I’ve been itching to get out and hunt some of the local haunts in my area, and this post reminds me to make the time for a little thrifting trip. For now a little early morning Etsy shopping will have to do. I hope you’re still soaking up all the family time while you can. Have a lovely day Sarah!

    1. Thanks, Lauren! I need to go check out my favorite local thrift spots, too… it has been too long. Etsy isn’t working for me this morning. I’m not sure if their server was down or something? Hopefully it works for you. We’re still hosting the fam, so things have been busy over here. I’m excited to get back to our routine after they head out. I hope you’re having a good week so far :) xo

Sorry to reply so late. I have annual doctor visits this week.

    1. I hope your appointments went well, Danna :) I always do the same thing… schedule everything during the same week and get it over with. It’s always nice to head into a new season with a clean bill of health! xo
