Emmett and I both have a favorite piece of furniture. It was the very first “nice” things we bought together after moving into our first home. Any guesses? Obviously the post title gives it away… our leather bed. We thought it was expensive at the time and splurged knowing we’d keep it forever, as it was a timeless option. I was working at a design firm and custom designed our leather bed. It is the single most asked about piece of furniture I get, and unfortunately- there is no magic link I can hand out for the exact same product since it was totally custom. After years of answering the “sorry, it’s custom” question, I decided a post was in order! I’m sharing 9 alternative leather beds that are the same cognac / brown colored leather as ours. Click through to see what I came up with…
Over the years, the bedding and surrounding decor has changed, but I’m still really happy with the bed itself!

There are some great options in the mix… I might even go as far to say, I like a couple even better than our bed. Lots of them are also customizable, and they definitely all come in a variety of sizes or different color leathers.
I think a solid piece of furniture, like a bed, constructed of a quality material (like leather) is a very good investment. In our case, it has been a worthy splurge and we still love it just as much as we did the day it was delivered.
It has really become a symbol of home for us and something we were proud to purchase that has stayed with us throughout each renovation. It’s just special! If a piece of furniture is capable of creating those types of feelings, it’s certainly a keeper.
The dogs are also very happy with it. Given the durability of leather, they can’t really mess it up… meaning more forbidden cuddles in bed with the cuties. Haha! I wish we could sleep in tomorrow, but it’s a mad dash to finish the guest bathroom this weekend. Wish us luck! We’ll have plenty of time to catch up on sleep in the pretty leather bed later. Hope you all have an amazing weekend! See you back here on Monday.

March 1, 2019 at 4:39 amYour bed is a beauty; I’m not surprised it’s become a special haven. The other options you found are all pretty great too. I love #6, but my tall guy has vetoed platform beds (too low!). You have completed so much in the bathroom this week! The door looks amazing. A weekend for you two is like 500 man-hours! You got this.
(Also, Cash’s little teeth and pink ear!😍)

March 4, 2019 at 1:12 pmThanks Peggi! I hope you had a wonderful weekend. I also prefer a regular bed with a boxspring as opposed to a platform. As for the bathroom, we needed about 1000 man hours, but we recruited friends and got a lot done :) Can’t wait to share!

March 1, 2019 at 12:41 pmThis gorgeous bed was my inspiration when we re-did the guest room in our previous home. We did a black faux shiplap wall and I knew a cognac leather would look super sophisticated against it. I couldn find one that I loved that would not break the bank (it was for the guest room after all, I wanted the look without a hefty price tag). I had an upholstered headboard and decided to just re-uphoster it. It turned out amazibg and because I got a very convincing faux leather my budget was spared 😍 Long story unnecessarily long (ha) thank you for the inspiration!!!

March 4, 2019 at 3:47 pmI love your leather bed! I am planning to upgrade my bed in the next year or two, and first considered a fabric upholstered bed, but I think I might splurge on leather. A bonus is that dog hair doesn’t stick to it like it would to most fabrics!
I really like #8…and just wanted to add that Room and Board has a couple of leather bed options as well.

March 6, 2019 at 3:28 pmThanks Megan! Leather is definitely splurge worthy… and so durable for the dogs. It’s probably one of my very best design / interior decisions. Oddly enough, I’ve never purchased anything from Room & Board, but they have some beautiful things.

October 16, 2022 at 11:01 amHi I love what you’ve done! Can I know what charcoal colored paint you used? I love the contrast! Also are the white nightstands that ones that are vintage or the blue? I would love to find those white nightstands too! Thank you so much for the inspiration!

October 25, 2022 at 5:49 pmI wish I could remember the name of that paint color- sorry, Lauren! It was over a decade ago when I painted that space. I do remember it being a Benjamin Moore color- maybe Black Panther? Both the blue and white nightstands are vintage. I hope that helps!
