Noteworthy

Happy Monday, friends! I hope everyone had a lovely weekend. Since this is a holiday week and we currently have house guests visiting (hence the new bedding in the guest room, shown above), I thought I’d keep the blog posts short and light hearted this week. Click through for a brand new Noteworthy post featuring inspiring links, renovation updates, and other random thoughts to kick off the week.

You’ve probably already noticed on Insta stories, but we’re hosting two of our best friends for the week and it has been SO much to take advantage of our kitchen, backyard, and veranda. I feel like the house has turned a corner and is finally a place I’m proud of. It’s also fun to see how everything is working from a functional perspective. I have to say, I’m happy with everything and there isn’t anything I’d change (or regret) as of yet.

Despite the fact our friends are camped out in the guest room, the hallway renovation is still underway. You can learn more about it in this video highlight. Our doors should be arriving this week and we finished the ceiling wallpaper over the weekend. The reveal is actually going to be pretty soon- in July… so that’s something to look forward to!

We’re hosting a 4th of July backyard BBQ with some of our close friends on Wednesday, and I’m eager to pull out the yard games, pour margaritas, and relax. I’ll try to snap some photos or share stories so you can see the setup. I’m not going all out… it’s going to be super casual and I don’t even think I’ll decorate. Cocktails, charcuterie board, grilled food, and hanging with our favorite people- I’m not going to overcomplicate things.

Since we have house guests, I’m taking the entire week off to show them all of my favorite Utah things. Do you guys want to see more of that on IG stories? We’ll be hiking, kayaking, and doing all of my outdoorsy favorites. A reader asked why we moved to Utah and THAT is precisely the reason- mountains, the beauty, the landscape, etc. It’s absolutely breathtaking and I love sharing it with people who appreciate that sort of thing.

Speaking of landscapes, I’ve been teasing Emmett about our next BIG project and I’m trying to convince him we should buy a lake or beach house fixer upper to rent out. Ha! He said we can’t afford that right now, but a girl can dream. I discovered a new favorite designer and he makes me want to create the kookiest beach / lake cottage. His aesthetic is the perfect amount of eclectic and weird. Check out Tom House. The bathroom shown above is giving me all the feels!

Now that we’re on the topic of beach and lake houses… I’ve been spending more time in the sun (kayaking & hiking) and I discovered a new favorite sunscreen. If anyone is in the market for a new sunblock to wear daily on your face, this is my new go-to. It’s lightweight, non-greasy, and priced decently. I’m really prone to breakouts and I’ve been using it for a month with zero skin irritations, clogged pores, or breakouts.

For swimsuits, I bought this top, paired with high waisted bottoms… as well as this one piece. I get so many compliments on them and I’m pretty self conscious in swimwear, so that’s saying something. I feel nice & secure and the material quality is top notch. I’d highly recommend both classic options.

While I’m talking about summer fashion, I also have to share my FAVORITE flip flops. I might sound like an old lady promoting Clarks, but these are the comfiest sandals I’ve ever put on my feet (no joke), and I pretty much wear them everyday. I’m serious- they’re that good. Super simple / super comfortable.

Alright, I’m taking off to enjoy time with my besties, but I’ve recruited Jacqueline to share an amazing DIY tomorrow. Definitely come back for that! It’s really really cool and I think you’re going to love it. I’ll be back here on Monday, but in the meantime, follow along on Instagram for Utah adventures, my backyard BBQ, and more. xo

  1. Oh my gosh! That Tom House portfolio?! Giant animal paintings, that orange vanity (and STOVE!), and so much marble! Crazy good. Thanks for the inspiration. Lake house…all the summer images have me dreaming the same. Casual, quirky, who-cares-about-the-rules design…that’s actually what I want every day! Have a stupendous week!😎

    1. I know!! He is fantastic. Looking at his portfolio inspired me to do something different. Who knows when that will be, but TONS of inspiration in the meantime. You have a good week too, Peggi! xo

  2. Love the new bedding, I’ve been looking for something similar for our bedding! I vote yes for seeing more on IG stories about your favorite Utah places and things to do!

    1. Thanks so much, Lacey! I actually have a post planned on the bedding- because it’s part of Annie Selke’s ‘Bed 101’ line, which is a bit more affordable… that post is coming in a month or so :) I’ve been trying to share fun Utah clips as they happen. Our friends have been here since last Friday, so I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing snippets of our hiking, kayaking, etc. Have a great week! xo
