One Last Kitchen Update

One Last Kitchen Update - roomfortuesday.comHere is one last kitchen update before the big reveal! Our kitchen is currently covered in sawdust, dirty fingerprints, and tools, but to me- it’s a glorious sight. This is the part of the process where I start to get reallllllly excited. We’ve spent the last two weeks working really hard and turning a corner… installing cabinets, tiling, getting the countertops in, plumbing, and installing appliances. I feel like we’re finally on the homestretch of our kitchen renovation! Click through for a little progress report…

Our Next Big Project : The Kitchen - roomfortuesday.comAs a reminder, this is the last update I shared. We had just started installing cabinets. If you’re interested to see that process, I included a video tutorial with that blog post! Let’s do a little time traveling with the same shot… this is what the space looked like during demo:

One Last Kitchen Update - roomfortuesday.comThen it looked like this four weeks later…

One Last Kitchen Update - roomfortuesday.comI don’t want to jinx it before we’re totally finished, but this kitchen renovation has went super smoothly! I spent months planning, getting organized, and it has certainly paid off. Like every renovation, you run into something unexpected, but for the most part- this space has unfolded better than we had hoped. Compared to our previous kitchen renovation that took over 6 months… this time around, we’ll have a finished space in less than 3 months- nearly HALF of the time for a room that is double in square footage. To say I’m proud is probably an understatement. Today it looks like this…

One Last Kitchen Update - roomfortuesday.comI knew there was something special about this space from the get go. Even in the early stages, when Lowe’s called me to chat about our future plans for the space, I got SO excited, sat down at my computer, didn’t move for 6 hours, and whipped up the entire kitchen design plan. In my entire design career, I’ve never pulled together a room of that scale so quickly. It just kind of poured out of me. I expected to tweak things, adjust the plan, and have to make some changes, but surprisingly- every single thing stayed the same and worked out perfectly. The stars seriously aligned for this one and I can’t wait to see it finished!

If you’re wondering what we have left to do… here is the laundry list:

  • install filler panels and finishing cabinet pieces
  • install millwork + moulding
  • sand & paint the window casing
  • paint the walls
  • finish installing the dishwasher
  • touch up the ceiling paint
  • finish tiling & grouting
  • install floating shelves
  • install plumbing fixtures (pot filler, faucet, garbage disposal, etc)
  • install sconces
  • finish installing cabinet hardware
  • enhance the soapstone countertops
  • CLEAN!
  • fill up / organize cabinets with our kitchen items
  • style the space
  • photograph the finished room (& share with you guys, obviously!)

One Last Kitchen Update - roomfortuesday.comWhew! That might seem like a lot, but I’m hoping it will go pretty quickly… there are a lot of little items and the difficult things are basically finished. We’re getting there and I couldn’t be happier.

  1. Wowza! I have said it before, but it bears repeating- you guys are astounding! The amount of beautiful work you accomplish puts an entire crew of tradespeople to shame. (No shade to tradespeople 😉) Everything looks so, so lovely. And while I would not want to discredit star-alignment, please, please give yourself your due. I think this plan came together so *magically* because of your hard work and professional experience! You are a kick-ass kitchen designer.💖

    1. Aw you’re the sweetest. Thank you for that! :)

  2. Love, love, love it! Can’t wait to see it finished. Our kitchen remodel took a year from design to finish. Well worth the wait, but a long road.

  9. OMG so amazing! I am dying to redo my kitchen! I love that you used Lowes for this! They are the only store in my town so its nice to see what people can do with a “big box” kitchen that isn’t Ikea or custom BUT LOOKS SO CUSTOM! (although i loved your last kitchen too!) Are you planning on sharing your budget at all? I am trying to wrap my head around doing a kitchen renovation and just thinking about it sounds intimidating! I can not wait for the reveal!

    1. Thank you so much! I’ll definitely share the budget once everything is wrapped up :) xo

  10. Anjanee Rotolo says:

Please tell me more about the base cabinets. What stain color? What type of finish? This is exactly what I’ve been looking for and any advice would certainly be appreciated.

    1. The cabinetry was a custom stain, therefore I don’t have a swatch or number to share. I’m sorry! It was a visit the cabinet shop and say- 1 more drop of yellow, 1 more of red, etc situation.

  11. Maricela D. Dorman says:

    OMG!
    Your kitchen is just mindblowing.
    Love it.

    1. Thank you so much, Maricela! We really love it- even a couple years later!
