One Last Kitchen Update
Here is one last kitchen update before the big reveal! Our kitchen is currently covered in sawdust, dirty fingerprints, and tools, but to me- it’s a glorious sight. This is the part of the process where I start to get reallllllly excited. We’ve spent the last two weeks working really hard and turning a corner… installing cabinets, tiling, getting the countertops in, plumbing, and installing appliances. I feel like we’re finally on the homestretch of our kitchen renovation! Click through for a little progress report…
As a reminder, this is the last update I shared. We had just started installing cabinets. If you’re interested to see that process, I included a video tutorial with that blog post! Let’s do a little time traveling with the same shot… this is what the space looked like during demo:
Then it looked like this four weeks later…
I don’t want to jinx it before we’re totally finished, but this kitchen renovation has went super smoothly! I spent months planning, getting organized, and it has certainly paid off. Like every renovation, you run into something unexpected, but for the most part- this space has unfolded better than we had hoped. Compared to our previous kitchen renovation that took over 6 months… this time around, we’ll have a finished space in less than 3 months- nearly HALF of the time for a room that is double in square footage. To say I’m proud is probably an understatement. Today it looks like this…
I knew there was something special about this space from the get go. Even in the early stages, when Lowe’s called me to chat about our future plans for the space, I got SO excited, sat down at my computer, didn’t move for 6 hours, and whipped up the entire kitchen design plan. In my entire design career, I’ve never pulled together a room of that scale so quickly. It just kind of poured out of me. I expected to tweak things, adjust the plan, and have to make some changes, but surprisingly- every single thing stayed the same and worked out perfectly. The stars seriously aligned for this one and I can’t wait to see it finished!
If you’re wondering what we have left to do… here is the laundry list:
- install filler panels and finishing cabinet pieces
- install millwork + moulding
- sand & paint the window casing
- paint the walls
- finish installing the dishwasher
- touch up the ceiling paint
- finish tiling & grouting
- install floating shelves
- install plumbing fixtures (pot filler, faucet, garbage disposal, etc)
- install sconces
- finish installing cabinet hardware
- enhance the soapstone countertops
- CLEAN!
- fill up / organize cabinets with our kitchen items
- style the space
- photograph the finished room (& share with you guys, obviously!)
Whew! That might seem like a lot, but I’m hoping it will go pretty quickly… there are a lot of little items and the difficult things are basically finished. We’re getting there and I couldn’t be happier.
Stay tuned for the reveal post, alllllll of the sources, and every single detail soon!
