Roundup : Daybeds

Roundup : Daybeds - roomfortuesday.comHow was your weekend? I wanted to kick off the week with a fun and fitting roundup… daybeds! As you know, that was the most difficult piece of furniture to source for my home office renovation. Aside from the manufacturing trouble I ran into (feel free to read about that here), it was tough to narrow down what style I was looking for. Over the past year, I saved a LOT of options, so I gathered them up to share… in case any of you are in the market for a daybed. I took comfort, size, price, and aesthetic into consideration. I really wanted a daybed that could double as an easy sleeping arraignment for overnight house guests (most likely our nieces or nephews), if needed. Click through for a big roundup of my favorites!

Roundup : Daybeds - roomfortuesday.comEven before I began designing my office, I knew I wanted a daybed in the space. Why? I just think they’re so charming, functional, and I have fond memories of daybeds from my childhood home. They have the ability to add a touch of whimsy to a space. You can cozy up with a good book, take a nap, hang out on your computer, use it for extra seating, or even to sleep for the night. I think daybeds are more functional than we give them credit for.

Roundup : Daybeds - roomfortuesday.comIf I’m being totally honest- I really haven’t put my daybed to good use quite yet. I’ve probably spent a total of 45 minutes reading here, but the dogs are loving the extra lounge pad while I get work done sitting at my desk. It’s basically a glorified dog bed at this point and they spend the most time on it, but I’m definitely planning to use it now that I’m settling into my home office!

Roundup : Daybeds - roomfortuesday.comReady to see my top picks? I tried to find options that were cozy, comfortable, and classic! Click directly on the daybed below to be redirected to the source…

01: elmore velvet daybed // 02: vintage french daybed // 03: cheshire skirted daybed // 04: carved oak daybed // 05: shaw daybed // 06: camelback daybed // 07: traditional daybed // 08: white iron daybed // 09: trundle daybed // 10: marlon daybed // 11: iron daybed // 12: wood daybed with trundle // 13: upholstered settee // 14: villandry daybed // 15: channel tufted daybed // 16: chesterfield daybed // 17: twin daybed // 18: jamie daybed

I had a wrought iron daybed growing up that was passed down from my grandmother- it looked a lot like number #8 from the roundup. I’m not exactly sure where it ended up, but it was beautiful! I have such fond childhood memories with that bed in my room. Also during my adolescent years, I spent a lot of nights at my cousin’s house who lived next door- we’re the same age and my aunt bought a daybed with a trundle so I could easily sleep over. It was so convenient and fun- especially for kids. However, daybeds aren’t just made for children’s spaces! As an adult, I think they look very classic in a home.

Roundup : Daybeds - roomfortuesday.comSome ideas and uses for daybeds…

  • A cozy spot to curl and read…
  • For an extra sleeping space…
  • In a window nook…
  • Use as an oversized bench…
  • To make larger rooms feel more cozy…
  • Easily fits in a smaller bedroom…
  • Installed in a kids room…
  • In place of a sleeper sofa…

I actually wanted to find a daybed for our guest room window nook, pictured below… but the sizing was odd and I happened to stumble across this armless sofa that fit perfectly, so we did that instead. It kind of has a similar effect though!

Roundup : Daybeds - roomfortuesday.comDaybeds are also optimal for vacation or rental homes, if you’re trying to squeeze in an additional sleeping arrangement. Much like sleeper sofas, their small footprint and trundle option makes them the ideal selection for spaces that have frequent visitors.

Roundup : Daybeds - roomfortuesday.comI hope this roundup was helpful if you’re on the hunt for daybeds or have been brainstorming ways to use them! Another option is to always have a custom one built locally, like I did… or find a vintage option. I hope everyone has a lovely and productive week ahead. We still have snow on the ground here, but I’m thinking happy spring thoughts! Check back on Wednesday for a spring-related post from Peggi.

  1. Good morning! (Crosby’s smooshy face!😍) This is such an amazing roundup! I’ve been searching for a daybed for ages. I just love the look of a backless style. Floated in a room for flexible seating or tucked in a cozy nook-they’re so versatile. I’m partial to the modern look of #1, 5 and 13. Unfortunately, I need a back for my purposes, and those styles seem to be less sleek. It also needs to be uber sturdy, preferably metal… Ha. Do you ever decide on the exact item you need, only to discover it might not exist? I will keep looking, but your amazing selection here gives me hope that my perfect daybed is out there somewhere. Here’s to a busy & blustery March week! I’ll see everyone on Wednesday! 💜

    1. Hello, hello! Crosby got a haircut this weekend (thanks to groomer Emmett, ha) and his smooshy face is the cutest right now :) I love a good daybed moment! I usually hold out until the right piece pops into my life- or I’ll try to design/make something similar myself. For me right now- it’s the vintage kitchen island table. It will happen eventually! It’s out there somewhere :) Here’s to a great March! So far it’s going better than January & February for our household. No recent trips to the vet or doctor in a few weeks, lol! Cheers to a good week with hopefully better weather! xox

  2. I love daybeds, and also had a wrought iron one growing up. My sister and I shared a room, so it had a trundle. I have the best memories of us pulling the trundle out just enough to slip under the daybed and play in our “fort”. We also used to push the trundle right up to the bed, and put full size sheets over the two mattresses. We felt like queens sleeping in a huge bed! They really are so versatile and add so much charm. I don’t have a preference when it comes to back or backless. #10 for the tufted and rolled arms and that gorgeous French blue upholstery; #14 for the beautiful mixture of modern and traditional style; #16 for the perfect shade of navy with the nail head detail; #17 for the shape, clean lines and crisp linen look. As always, you find the most beautiful options! I hope today’s jump start into the work week is a good one for you! Xo

    1. Me too, Lauren! So fun that you shared a room with your sister. We used to do that with the trundle, too :) The perfect hiding spot! I love all of your picks :) I hope your week is off to an awesome start, too! Have a great day and enjoy your walk! xox

  3. Your daybed roundup is impressive! So many good options for many different styles. I am so glad you were able to find a local shop to build yours after the debacle with OKL.
We had a daybed for guests and then our daughter and I loved it! It was a lot like #12. Your nieces are going to love staying with you and sleeping on the ‘dog approved’ daybed! Question is will the dogs let anyone sleep on it? Ha!!
Have a fabulous day friend! Loo forward to Wednesday and Peggi’s post!

    1. Thanks so much, Danna! I’m thrilled to have found that local shop. We’ll definitely use them again in the future. Jordan (who works with me at Tuesday Made) had them make her a sofa and it turned out gorgeous! I love that style of daybed- it sounds like it worked great for your daughter, her friends, and house guests. The dogs have definitely taken it over, ha. They’re so spoiled! I’ll have to give it a good clean or vacuum before I let our favorite littles sleep there. Lol! Have a wonderful day :) It’s beautiful and spring-like here today! xo

  4. For anyone in the market for a daybed you have provided an excellent selection in this roundup Sarah! I love the one in your office and looks like Crosby does too. He is so adorable and looks so comfortable! I also like #10, 13, 14 and 16. I had a daybed with storage underneath for our daughter when she was young, and it was ideal. It also opened and could be turned into a king bed when needed. It was amazing! I wanted to mention I made the recipe from Fridays post and it was delicious. I had to make a few dietary substitutions but it’s a tasty dish and I never had whipped cauliflower before, and it was yummy! I will make it again for sure. Thanks for sharing it! We are enjoying Florida and the weather has been fantastic. Heading to the beach tomorrow to celebrate Andrew’s birthday and I look forward to Peggi’s post on Wednesday. Wishing you and everyone a beautiful day!

    1. Thanks, Colleen! That is so neat that your daughter’s old daybed did that… I didn’t realize they could be turned into king size beds. Maybe with the trundle? Very cool and a great option for additional sleeping space! I love hearing that you made the chicken recipe and liked it :) The whipped cauliflower is my favorite! It’s a great lighter alternative and you can definitely make it more healthy by subtracting some cream cheese and butter. Ha! Have so much fun celebrating Andrew’s birthday at the beach! That sounds like the best day and the perfect way to celebrate. Have a great week! xox
