So if you haven’t already figured this out- I’m obsessed with one of my friend’s houses… luckily she let me shoot most of it and I’m sharing it room by room here on the blog! In case you missed the first two spaces, check out the dining room and the hallway she let me makeover. Today, I’m revealing one of my favorite spaces in the home… the formal living room! It’s perfectly eclectic, filled with books, art, plenty of color, and the most interesting vintage pieces. Every time I visit, I notice something new that makes me smile. There are trinkets and accessories hidden in perfect places, just waiting to be discovered by guests. I wish you guys could experience this space in person, but I’ll give you the next best thing… a complete photographed tour.
I love the built-in filled with tons of books, anchoring an impressive gallery wall. As you might guess by the amazing art collection, these aren’t just average books- most are artsy vintage publications, mixed with modern day best sellers.
This is one of my favorite vignettes… there’s something beautifully balanced about a heavy traditional instrument that meets color and quirky sculptural elements.
Although I love a good gallery wall, my most coveted feature in this room is the fireplace area. Grasscloth adds the perfect textural update to the focal wall, while modern sconces flank an ornate vintage mirror. It totally encompasses the vibe of this room- textural, classic, modern, and eclectic.
On the adjacent wall, sits another charming bookshelf… complete with a gallery light. I had a bit of a photography fail… do you spy my camera equipment sitting on the dining table in the mirror reflection? Ha! Whoops.
It might be difficult to gage from photographs, but this room is really sizable! Additional seating has been placed in the corners of the room, which is perfect for entertaining. Speaking of… this particular friend is hosting our going away party in her gorgeous home and I couldn’t be more ecstatic (I’ll be sure to post more on the move within the next couple weeks)!!
Does the light fixture below ring a bell? This actually came from our show house bedroom!
And last but not least, I’ll leave you with a wide shot that shows the space in it’s entirety. It really is one the best rooms in the house, filled with SO many treasures.
Alright!! Let’s hear your favorite elements in this space. Get the look below…

August 3, 2016 at 7:27 pmAre there any tips or tricks to updating built-in wall sconces like these? I like how they anchor the mirror. We have some hideous ones in our new bedroom (that are completely out of place) and I wasn’t sure how hard/expensive a project it would be to update them. Thanks!

August 3, 2016 at 7:54 pmI’m also loving those sconces, Grace! They’re not original to the home, but they are hardwired. If you’re not comfortable working with electrical, I’d contact your local electrician. For an experienced person, it’s relatively easy and quick to switch out light fixture. Hope this helps! xo
