Idyllic Moments : July 2020

Idyllic Moments : July 2020 - roomfortuesday.comLast month I started a new, reoccurring series that felt a bit more personal, but was focused on interiors and all things home inspiration. I thought it would be fun to share small vignettes around our house each month that make me smile. Idyllic means happy, peaceful, or picturesque, and there are many moments in our home that bring me those feelings. So far, I’ve really enjoyed photographing and sharing these posts. It gives me an opportunity to appreciate the little details. These posts are a glimpse into real life and our home as we actually live in it. Click through for the July edition of Idyllic Moments and to see some summertime vignettes that made my stop to acknowledge and enjoy the little details…

Idyllic Moments : July 2020 - roomfortuesday.comWe finished renovating our formal living room back in January, and it’s difficult to believe it was a basic, builder-grade shoebox style room. This space really makes me happy and I find myself sitting in here all the time. I recently added two new furniture pieces to the room, that was the result of a Facebook Marketplace score…

Idyllic Moments : July 2020 - roomfortuesday.comI stumbled across two nero marble side tables and quickly jumped at the $40 find. While I loved the look of our previous end tables flanking the sofa, they weren’t very heavy. Given our dogs zoom around the house like maniacs, I had been on the hunt for two heavier side tables that wouldn’t tip when the dogs decided to get “the zoomies”. These were perfect for the room!

Idyllic Moments : July 2020 - roomfortuesday.comSpeaking of table styling… have I ever mentioned how difficult oval coffee tables are to style?! This is one thing that took me a LOT of practice to figure out. Recognize that calligraphy brush from my recent Tuesday Morning haul? I’ve found that oblong accessories are the easiest when working with oval tables, if you ever find yourself in a similar styling situation.

Idyllic Moments : July 2020 - roomfortuesday.comIt has really felt bright in our house, given we’re in the summer season and it stays light very late here. I’ve honestly enjoyed watching the light change these past couple months. Capturing light leaks and shadows has excited me and sparked a newfound love for creative photography.

Idyllic Moments : July 2020 - roomfortuesday.comCheck out my FBMP side tables from a lower vantage point… isn’t that greek key detail stunning? Somehow they feel elegant, hip, classic, and edgy all at the same time. These were definitely a super score! This is the same nero marble we have in our guest bathroom upstairs. I love repeating materials throughout our home for a cohesive thread that ties the entire place together.

Idyllic Moments : July 2020 - roomfortuesday.comDuring my grocery run this week, I ended up with a lot of fresh flowers. If you know me well, you know the florals seen throughout this post all came from Trader Joe’s. I actually have a post on how to create a Trader Joe’s floral arrangement, if you’re interested! Fresh flowers have been filling our home with summer scents and texture this month.

Idyllic Moments : July 2020 - roomfortuesday.comSunflowers are the epitome of summertime. You can’t look at them and not smile. I put these together in the kitchen and they never left the space. The beautiful sunshine yellow color works perfectly against our moody cabinetry. Yellow and blue is always a winning combination.

Idyllic Moments : July 2020 - roomfortuesday.comSpeaking of the kitchen, we’ve been spending a lot of time in here lately. We’re still cooking and baking up a storm… actually Emmett has been doing the majority of the cooking these past few weeks, as I’ve been working long, late hours. I have so much I want to share with you- very soon! Basically, I’ve been spending a lot of time cleaning and painting our rental office.

Idyllic Moments : July 2020 - roomfortuesday.comSummertime seems to be flying, but also standing still. I’ve been itching to travel so badly, but we’ve been cancelling all of our upcoming planned trips. I’m really appreciative of our house, our beautiful home state of Utah, and am trying to remind myself to enjoy these moments making memories at home. I definitely love where we live! How is everyone holding up this month? What areas or vignettes in your home have been making you smile lately? I’d love to hear!

  1. Such lovely images! I, myself, have been feeling the itch to buy some flowers. I have added a few new houseplants this summer, but I think the time has come for some blooms. I love your new tables! I’ve been searching for all things marble lately- side tables, coffee table, bedside chest! In addition to Joe’s “enthusiasm”, we contend with Sunday’s shenanigans. As a non-cat person, you might be surprised how much havoc a 7 pound cat could wreak! A cat’s life mission is to knock all small items off every surface.🙀 That calligraphy brush would never stay on a table at my house. Thank goodness for pets though! I have especially been appreciating their presence these last few months.
Have a lovely Wednesday, Sarah! Don’t work too hard!!💜

    1. Thank you Peggi :) What kind of new house plants did you find? I wish our house was better suited for plants… I miss having lots of them. I’ll live vicariously through you. I truly had no idea cats would tinker or mess with accessories or small items. That is so interesting (and funny). I bet it’s cute until it gets old? Lol! I could definitely see how Sunday would like playing with the calligraphy brush. Our dogs never mess with things, they just knock into furniture like bowling balls when they chase each other around. Ha! The new tables have been withstanding them much better. Amen to having pets this year. They have been making us smile and laugh through this weird, tough year. Amazing how our fur family members can be so comforting! Hope you had a great day. It’s a late night for us over here working, but headed to bed soon :) xo

    2. Anne K Holland says:

Had to laugh, Peggi – our cat is the same and anything remotely oblong, she. cannot. resist. Little tap, little tap, little tap, bam, off the table! It’d be frustrating if it wasn’t so darn cute. (Okay, it’s still a little frustrating. 😆) Hope you’re having a lovely week!!

  2. I am loving these posts, Sarah!

Rental office?! Did I miss something?! Do share!

    1. Thank you Mindy! Yes- we rented an office space. It’s a very recent thing, haha! So you haven’t really missed anything. I’ll share more details soon :)

  3. It is TOO funny that you mentioned how styling your oval coffee table is difficult. FINDING one is difficult, too! We miss our oval dining table from our last home that you pointed us towards (thank you again!) and with limited space around the sofa, think oval might be the way to go. Our shins would likely agree.) I’m looking for a two shelf one though, mid-century mod feel, walnut wood, not heavy looking and that combo is nearly impossible. I know I probably need to scout more vintage sources like FB marketplace, etc., but I’m lazy and generally don’t like “digging”. Ha ha! Anyway, your little vignettes are beautiful, as always – those sunflowers with your cabinet color – sublime! I had a tray on the master bath countertop holding some pretty toiletries, but recently I added a faux orchid and I can’t believe the difference it made with the additional height and the softness that plants bring. Double score that it’s all reflected in the huge (stupid builder grade) mirror that take up practically the entire wall. Do they really think we love seeing *that* much of ourselves in the bathroom?!? Anyway, I love that it’s one of the first things I see in the morning and one of the last things I see before going to bed. It really is the little things, isn’t it? Now about that office building….🤪

    1. They are SO tough to find! I struggled to find this one, but I really do love the shape… especially with our curved sofa. It fits the room nicely. I feel like vintage is your best bet for what you’re looking for! Your orchid vignette in the bathroom sounds absolutely beautiful. THOSE are the little moments I’m talking about. Doesn’t it make you so happy? I’m just getting home from another long day of painting at the office. Phew! Nothing fun to share yet, but soon (I hope), haha! Hope your day was beautiful, Anne! Off to read your blog post before bed :)

      1. Lady, you been paintin’ and paintin’! (Do people see you rollin’, they hatin’? Sorry, couldn’t be helped.😁) Can. Not. Wait. To. Hear!!

  4. Love seeing other people’s Marketplace finds! Did you replace the table tops with leftover bathroom countertop or did they happen to just match?

    1. They just happen to match! I’ve always been a fan of nero marble and as soon as these popped up in my feed, I jumped. They’re so perfect for our living room. Have you scored anything recently on FBMP? I love compiling the marketplace posts each month. The thrill of the furniture hunt is always fun! Hope you’re having a good night, Abby!
