Trip to Asheville

This past weekend Dan and I took a little road trip to Asheville, North Carolina to celebrate our three year wedding anniversary. It’s hard to believe we have already been married for three years. Time flies when you are having fun with your best friend! Here is a little recap of our trip.

Thursday – We woke up, picked up Starbucks and hit the road early. Driving through the mountains is such a scenic road trip! We arrived in Brevard around lunch time, which is a cute little town about thirty minutes outside of Asheville. We ate lunch at a little diner called Rocky’s that Dan had been to before. Then we went on a five mile hike through the woods where we stopped and saw three beautiful waterfalls along the way. We ended our hike at Sliding Rock where we put on our brave pants and slid down a rock into fifty degree water. That’s right – fifty degrees! Even though I had my breath taken away BOTH times I did it, it was one of those bucket list worthy items and I felt like I had to do it. Dan caught the whole thing on video and I will keep that one to myself for now. Ha! Naturally, we stopped for ice cream on our way to eat a delicious summer pizza at All Souls in West Asheville before heading to our home-away-from-home Airbnb.

Friday – We spent the morning exploring the beautiful gardens and home at The Biltmore Estate. I have visited this architectural beauty a few times before, but each time I visit, it never ceases to amaze me. The details, details, details! We had a delicious Mediterranean lunch as Rezaz, followed by a wine tasting on the estate and some shopping in Antique Village. I fell in love with so many pieces and sadly could not bring them home due to lack of space in the car. Next time we are taking a U-haul! Some of my favorite antique shops we visited were Oddfellows, Screendoor and Dwellings. We ate dinner at Admiral which had been highly suggested by multiple sources. It looked like a renovated bar, but the food was delicious! My favorite? The dark chocolate creme brûlée. From there we ventured back up into the mountains for cocktails at the beautiful Omni Grove Park Inn. Even if you are not staying at the Inn, you can come for drinks or visit their spa and enjoy the grounds all day long!

Saturday – I am just going to go ahead and call this the day of eating. Dan and I are usually pretty healthy people, but “When in Rome” right? Let’s just say we will be hitting the gym extra hard this week because of it. We started out the day with a coffee date at High Five Coffee. After that we went downtown, did a little shopping, and walked to Pack Square Park. That afternoon we went on the delicious Eating Asheville food tour. There were eight stops total – a few of our favorites included Battery Park Book Exchange, Cucina24, Chocolate Gems and Rhubarb. Battery Park Book Exchange is a fun champagne bar/bookstore with over 80 wines and 30,000 books. Chocolate Gems makes delicious truffles and holds the account for the Biltmore wine tastings. Let’s just say we went back for more after the tour. Later in the afternoon we met up with some college friends for drinks at Wicked Weed Brewery. We ended the day of eating with a late dinner at Curate, a yummy tapas bar. As you could have guessed, we were so full we could hardly enjoy our meal (which was a bummer because this place was so fun!).

Sunday – We had an early breakfast at Sunny Point Cafe (so yummy) then headed home!

We had such a fun weekend together in the mountains! For more photos from our trip check out my Instagram and Room for Tuesday’s Instagram. Have any of you visited Asheville; what were your favorite stops?
